Circadin is a medication which contains the hormone melatonin. Melatonin naturally occurs in the human body and is involved in regulating our sleep-wake cycle.

Melatonin (trade name Circadin) is a prescription only medication available in the UK. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in the body and is used to help treat the symptoms of jet lag. Circadin is used on its own for the short-term treatment of insomnia, and should not be taken for more than 13 weeks.
One 2mg tablet should be taken orally, after food, 1-2 hours before bedtime. This course can be taken for up to thirteen weeks, but no longer than this period. The tablet should be swallowed whole, and must not be crushed, cut in half or chewed.
Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is usually not advised, with as it may make the melatonin less effective.
Like all medication, there is some risk of side effects such as; chest pain, abdominal pain, dry mouth, dizziness and anxiety. If you feel you are suffering from any uncommon side effects, contact your doctor for advice straight away.
