About Mysimba

Mysimba is an effective weight loss medication used for the management of weight in adults over the age of 18 with a body mass index (BMI) of over 30, or over 27 if weight-related co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes or controlled hypertension are a factor.

There are many reasons why people gain weight. Some of the most common among them include excessive hunger, difficulty managing portion sizes and stress or anxiety-related eating. Mysimba can help adults struggling with obesity to lose their excess weight quickly, effectively and safely.

Benefits of Mysimba

IMysimba is proven to be an effective weight loss treatment. Studies have documented that Mysimba can help you lose an average of 5% of your total body weight when taken in conjunction with a healthy eating regime. This compares to just a 1% loss through dieting alone. 42% of Mysimba users lost at least 5% of their total body weight, compared to just 17% of those not using Mysimba.

By reducing your overall weight, Mysimba can help to reduce the dangerous build up of fat around your waistline. This ring of fat is a contributing factor in many serious health conditions, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular issues.

Mysimba can also help to reduce LDL cholesterol, or ‘bad’ cholesterol. Diabetics using Mysimba have found improvements in their blood sugar control.

How Mysimba works

Mysimba contains two active ingredients. These are Naltrexone and Bupropion.

Both of these medicines work in the reward pathways of the brain in order to reduce feelings of hunger and alleviate food cravings. Naltrexone helps to curb cravings, having previously been prescribed to reduce alcohol dependence. Similarly, Bupropion helps to reduce appetite and has previously been used as an antidepressant and to help people stop smoking.

Although both Naltrexone and Bupropion have been used as medications before, Mysimba marks the first time they have been combined in a single weight loss treatment. This combination acts on parts of the brain which control food intake and energy balance, and control the pleasure associated with eating food.

How to use

How to take Mysimba

Mysimba should always be taken as prescribed, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and an increase in physical activity. It must only be used by obese adults over the age of 18 to help with weight management.

The regular dosage of Mysimba is to start by taking one tablet each morning for one week. During the second week, one tablet can be taken in the morning and another tablet can be taken in the evening. For the third week, users can take two tablets in the morning and a single tablet in the evening. In week four, Mysimba dosage can increase to two tablets in the morning and two in the evening.

If you do not lose 5% of your total body weight within 16 weeks of using the weight loss treatment, consumption of Mysimba should be stopped.

Using Mysimba

If you are an overweight adult over 18, Mysimba may be applicable to you as a weight loss treatment. It is not suitable for pregnant women, women trying to conceive or individuals with liver or kidney disease.

You should avoid Mysimba if you have experienced uncontrolled hypertension or seizure disorder in the past. You should also avoid the weight loss medication if you have a known central nervous system tumour or are experiencing alcohol withdrawal. Individuals with mental health or eating disorders should also avoid the use of Mysimba, including bipolar disorder, bulimia or anorexia nervosa. Those with a history of depression should use the medication with caution.
