Generic drugs are copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same dosage, intended use, effects, side effects, route of administration, risks, safety, and strength as the original drug. The European Medicines Agency and the MHRA in the UK are responsible for ensuring the quality of both generic and branded medication. Purchasing a generic medication from a reputable and fully regulated pharmacist is every bit as safe as a brand-name drug.

Description

What is Omeprazole?

Omeprazole belongs to group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Omeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid.

What is acid reflux?

When acid from the stomach leaks up into the gullet (oesophagus), the condition is known as acid reflux. This may cause heartburn and other symptoms.

What is heartburn?

Heartburn is a painful burning feeling just below or behind the breastbone. It usually comes from the oesophagus. The pain often rises in your chest and may spread to your neck or throat.
