What is SPEDRA?
Spedra is a relatively new drug in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It contains the active ingredient Avanafil (a PDE-5 inhibitor), which has been found to help men achieve erections in just 15 minutes. Spedra also works for up to 5 hours but will only cause an erection in tandem with sexual stimulation. As with other erectile dysfunction medication, Spedra will not lead to a permanent, irreversible erection during this period.
How does SPEDRA work?
Like other impotence medications such as Viagra, Spedra works to increase the widening of arteries in the body to enable more blood to flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. More blood passing through the chambers of the penis results in a harder erection, and one that can be maintained throughout the duration of intercourse.
While Viagra contains the active ingredient sildenafil, Spedra consists of the active ingredient Avanafil. Research has shown that Spedra is absorbed more quickly into the body, meaning that it begins working faster. For men suffering from erectile dysfunction this means that Spedra can help them prepare for sexual activity on shorter notice, and give them confidence in their ability to achieve a firm, maintainable erection quicker.
Like all PDE-5 (phosphodiesterase type 5) inhibitors used in the treatment of impotence, Spedra works by stopping a particular enzyme in the body from working, which is responsible for keeping the blood vessels in the penis constricted. While PDE-5 inhibitors support greater blood flow to the penis they will not do anything to increase or enhance sexual desire.

- Who have undergone a prostatectomy or have had partial removal of their prostate
Spedra contains a different active ingredient to the more famous impotence drug, Viagra. However, both Avanafil (Spedra) and Sildenafil (Viagra) work in much the same way to increase blood flow to the penis. The difference between these two medications is how quickly the active ingredient is absorbed into the body and for how long it continues to work.
How to use
How to take SPEDRA
Spedra is an impotence medicine that is ingested orally in tablet form. Take one Spedra tablet daily, up to 30 minutes before sexual intercourse. Spedra (Avanafil) can be taken with food or without food. If taken with food, the medication may take longer to work. Effects can last up to 5 hours in certain cases.
Dosage
The recommend starting dose for Spedra (Avanafil) is one 100mg tablet taken 30 minutes before sexual activity. If you achieve the desired effect but are suffering from side effects, try lowering the dose to 50mg. If after trying 100mg tablets four times without the desired effect, and you are not experiencing side effects, increase the dose to 200mg.
If you have tried 200mg on 8 separate occasions without effect you should cease treatment and consult your doctor.
It is important to take Spedra exactly as prescribed by your pharmacist or doctor. Always follow the directions attached to your prescription, and if in doubt, consult a health professional before ingesting any medicine.
Precautions
Do not take more than one Spedra tablet each day. Overdosing can lead to side effects and health problems.
Do not split tablets. Splitting tablets can lead to inadequate doses, making the treatment ineffective.
Do not use other erectile dysfunction medicines or treatments at the same time as Spedra. Mixing with Viagra, Levitra, Cialis or another impotence drug can be dangerous for your health. It is also worth discussing any other medicines with your doctor before any course of erectile dysfunction treatment. Some drugs may interact with Vardenafil or counteract its effectiveness.
Do not take Levitra if you are allergic to Avanafil. Call your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction. Symptoms may include a rash, hives, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat – which can lead to difficulty breathing and swallowing.
Avoid drinking too much alcohol when taking Levitra. Drinking alcohol before taking Spedra may increase your heart rate and/or lower your blood pressure. This may increase the likelihood of certain side effects such as headaches and dizziness. Excessive consumption of alcohol also counteracts the effectiveness of any impotence medication and makes it harder to establish an erection.
Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice . Grapefruit products may interact with avanafil and cause unwanted side effects.

Spedra (avanafil) is a new to market prescription medication. As such, there are limited testimonials regarding its side effects from the public. Drug trials that were conducted in controlled environments were reassuring, however, and suggested that side effects such as dizziness and headaches are mild and that more serious side effects (if any) have not yet been identified.
