Description
The maximum daily dosage of Sumatriptan is 300 milligrams. This is equivalent to either six 50mg tablets a day or three 100mg capsules a day. Do not exceed more than 300mg of Sumatriptan within a 24 hour window.
Sumatriptan is not dependent on food, so you can take it with or without food alongside.
You should consume 50mg of Sumatriptan as soon as possible once your symptoms flare up. Do not take it before any symptoms have occurred as it is not a preventative medication and will therefore not stop the migraine from occurring.
If after your first dose your symptoms are reduced, but later return, you may take a second dose at least two hours following on from your first. If the first tablet has no effect on your symptoms, do not take another dose.
Before taking Sumatriptan, consult the enclosed patient information leaflet. Sumatriptan is suitable for anybody over the age of 18 who is suffering with migraines.

Side Effects
With most prescription medication there are risks of side effects, and the same is true of Sumatriptan. The nature of these side effects may vary from person to person.
For most people, there will be no discernible side effect to using the medication. However, one in ten people may experience adverse effects to the drug such as tiredness and drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and dizziness. A few people may also experience sensations of heaviness and short term increases in blood pressure (transient).
Precautions
All migraine medication should be taken with care in order to avoid the risk of an overuse headache. A medication overuse headache, or rebound headache, can be caused by an overuse of drugs used to treat migraines. If you feel you need to take more than ten doses of Sumatriptan a month, consult your GP for advice.
